1942
In 1942 Joe and Hilder Christensen purchased the property and operated it under the name Oak Hills Farm. The property had two houses, a dairy barn with two silos, a sheep barn, a horse barn, machine shed, icehouse, milk house and cistern building.
1950
In 1950 Dave and Alma Ritter purchased the property and changed the name to Ritter Farm.
1972
The City purchased the property from David, Alma and Rosetta Ritter. The land acquired by the city included a barn, silo, pole shed, milk house, pump house, residential duplex and farmhouse and abandoned cistern totaling 340 acres.
Ritter Farm Park sits on an estimated 340 acres of historic farmland. Much of the park remains in its natural state with the addition of a variety of passive uses including an extensive trail system used for hiking, cross country skiing and horseback riding.
2022-2023
The historic cabin from Camp Savage that had been donated and placed on the property in 2008 was renovated into the new Ed Mako Environmental Learning Center. Funding for the project was approved as part of the 2021 Park Bond Referendum.
What is the Adopt-A-Park Program?
Adopt-A-Park is a public service program for volunteers to pick up litter, identify safety hazards and to freely communicate other issues associated with a particular park.
Program Guidelines
Adopt-A-Park is open to community groups, civic groups, churches and individual citizens for a minimum period of one year. Commitments may be for a longer term, preferably at least two years. Park sites are chosen on a first-come, first-served basis with priority given to past Adopt-A-Park participants. For more information about adopting a park, contact Lakeville's Parks Administration by email.
