Restrictions
Odd/even and time-of-day watering restrictions are in effect May 1 through September 30 each year.
The City of Lakeville's Watering Ordinance was designed to encourage water conservation. Residents can only water every other day, based on the last digit of your house number. If your house number ends in an even number, water only on even-numbered calendar days. If your house number ends in an odd number, water only on odd-numbered days.
Homeowners' associations and apartment complexes that provide a common irrigation system may water only every other day. Homeowners' associations and apartments north of 185th Street may water on odd-numbered calendar days and those south of 185th Street may water on even-numbered days.
In addition, watering is only allowed before 11 a.m. or after 5 p.m. each day. Watering during the heat of the day wastes water due to evaporation.
Violations
Residents who violate these restrictions will be given a warning for the first violation. The second violation will result in a $50 surcharge. Subsequent violations will increase the surcharge by $50 for each notice:
- 3rd notice: $100
- 4th notice: $150
- 5th notice and each subsequent notice: $200
Exceptions
Exceptions to the watering restrictions include:
- Limited hand-watering of plants using a hose
- Watering of new landscaping, sod or seed within 30 days of installation
For exceptions, such as new sod or seed, you are required to notify the Utilities Division at 952-985-2700 to be added to our list of exemptions.
