We head out in the morning and make a comfort stop at a rest area on our way to Duluth, arriving at the Blackwoods restaurant for a late lunch. Choose one of the two menu items: chicken pot pie or home-style meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Each lunch includes fresh baked corn bread, dessert and a beverage. Next stop is a tour at the Glensheen Mansion located on the shores of Lake Superior. After the mansion tour we will head over to the Bayfront Festival Park to experience “Bentleyville Tour of Lights.” Bring some money to shop in their gift store. There are 15 fire pits available to sit and warm up around, before we head back into town. We will make a quick stop at Tobies in Hinckley for a snack before heading home. Bus departs at 9 a.m., returns at 10:30 p.m.$95/members, $105/non-members.

Minnesota Germans and Their Contribution

We will head to downtown Minneapolis to meet our tour guide for an insightful look at the history of the German migration to Minnesota. Stops will be made at some interesting Germanic-American sites where we will learn about things like the Christmas tree tradition, breweries, Minnesota 13, grasshoppers and amazing bakeries. After the tour we will head to Gluek’s Restaurant in Minneapolis for a German style lunch, choose between: Schweineschnitzle spaetzle, a fried premium center-cut pork loin tenderized and encrusted with seasoned marble rye breadcrumbs, topped with a classic German-style cream sauce served over buttered spaetzle with fresh bread, or walleye fish n’ chips, hand-dipped wild caught walleye in Gluek Pilsener beer batter served over a mound of french fries, coleslaw and bread. Meals include a beverage. After lunch we will stop at Aki’s Bread Haus, a traditional German bakery to purchase baked goods. 

Bus departs from the Lakeville Heritage Center at 8:45 a.m. and returns at approximately 4:30 p.m. $87/members, $97/non-members.

Hocokata Ti

Hocokata Ti and Shakopee History

Arrive at Hocokata Ti [ho-cho-kah-tah-tee] in Shakopee for a guided walking tour through the exhibits. This is the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community’s (SMSC) cultural center and gathering space. After the tour, spend time in the Hocokata Ti gift shop. The gift shop also shares its space with the SMSC library, so guests should be mindful of those around them. After the tour we will stop at Ruby’s Family Restaurant in Shakopee for the luncheon combo special including a half sandwich, small salad, cup of soup, beverage and cookie or bar. After lunch the trip will continue to the Scott County Historical Museum. A staff person will introduce the museum galleries with unique exhibits about the history of Scott County.
